From Kilimanjaro's summit to Serengeti sunsets — 8K cinematic storytelling that captures the wild, the human, and the extraordinary.
"We don't just point a camera at Africa. We embed ourselves in its heartbeat."
Ratel Production was born in the shadow of Kilimanjaro — a studio built not in a city boardroom, but on the slopes of East Africa's greatest mountain. Founded by Joseph, a former laboratory scientist turned cinematic visionary, we combine scientific precision with artistic soul.
Named after the honey badger — Africa's most fearless creature — we go where other crews won't, capture what others miss, and deliver cinematic work that earns its place on international screens.
From the untamed wild to the most intimate human moments — Tanzania's most trusted cinematic studio.
Wildlife cinematography, Kilimanjaro expedition films, safari documentation, and drone aerials across East Africa's most iconic landscapes.
Wedding films, portrait sessions, birthday features, corporate media, live events, and podcast production crafted with cinematic precision.
A cross-section of our most recent cinematic productions — from Serengeti plains to mountaintops, from sacred vows to summit flags.
Our DJI Mavic 3 Pro fleet soars over Serengeti plains, Kilimanjaro's slopes, and Zanzibar's coastline — delivering 5.1K footage that stops the world in its tracks.
We are experts in the terrain, seasons, wildlife patterns, and permit requirements of every location we shoot. No other studio knows these landscapes like we do.

Nine days. Five climbers. One mountain. This 38-minute documentary follows an international expedition team from Amsterdam as they attempt Kilimanjaro's Lemosho Route — capturing the physical exhaustion, the breathtaking vistas, and the profound personal transformation that happens at altitude. Shot entirely in 8K with aerial drone sequences up to 5,500m.
We don't rent basic kits. Every production is equipped with cinema-grade cameras, professional audio, and specialist lenses — because your story deserves the best tools available.
Our gear list is constantly evolving to stay at the cutting edge of what's possible in the field. From the humid floor of the Serengeti to the freezing summit plateau of Kilimanjaro — our equipment is tested to extremes so your footage never compromises.
All productions are covered by professional indemnity insurance, and we hold permits for filming in all major Tanzanian national parks and conservation areas.
"I didn't choose filmmaking. Kilimanjaro chose it for me."
Joseph Mrope began his professional life in laboratory science — trained in precision, observation, and the patience that meticulous work demands. In 2017, on a solo expedition to Kilimanjaro's summit, he borrowed a camera from a fellow climber. The footage he returned with changed everything.
What started as personal documentation became a purpose. He taught himself cinematography, studied color science the same way he'd studied chemistry — systematically and obsessively. Within two years, international clients were flying to Tanzania specifically to book him.
Today, Ratel Production spans two distinct creative worlds — Ratel Wild for wildlife and expedition cinematography, and Ratel Legacy for weddings, events, and corporate clients. Both divisions operate with the same philosophy: uncompromising quality, total creative investment, and results that justify the journey.
A process built on clarity, creativity, and communication — so you always know what's happening and why.
We learn your goals, location, and timeline. Within 24 hours we send a custom production proposal — no templates, no guesswork.
